			Cladists — those who reside on the System — had, up until the 2500s, been restricted solely to life sys-side. There had been much resistance to 'downloading' leading up to this. It was seen as too risky, as it would allow another vector for those who so valued life as to upload to be taken advantage of, to fall into the machinations of capitalism and greed. Views on this, however, slowly began to loosen as did the grip of capitalism over the world phys-side. As the humanity began to reach for the stars once more, cladists began to dream. Those sys-side wanted to participate in Earth's second space age, too.

			Starting in about 2535, committees began to congeal and working groups formed. One notable clade, the Odists (whose name was well known both sys- and phys-side from their various projects in the preceding centuries) being who they are, wormed their way into this process. One Odist in particular, May Then My Name Die With Me, was at the forefront of one such group focused on recovering corrupted core dumps via downloading. Once it became clear that this might actually be possible, she became one of the loudest proponents of the project and the pace leapt forward.

			The first successful download happened in 2546, thanks to research overseen by both SysCon and the UN. Expensive as it is to produce biological bodies that can house positronic brains, downloads are still limited by 2550. Many downloads remained on Earth, but many more joined the crews of various stations.
